How to enter an onsen

Onsen is not for beginners. This hot water soul cleaning procedure should be done in the right way, right away. Without doing it wrong. Making mistakes is both wrong and rude. Rude is probably a word that doesn’t exist in the Japanese language. Perhaps as one of the deadly sins, but they probably don’t do the seven deadly sins. Hara-kiri?

Our mistake was not that bad, we only stood up and poured water over ourselves. When we were reprimanded, in a very friendly and polite way, to sit down and wash ourselves. We sat down.

And one more thing! Don´t ever waste the onsen water. Just imagine if we would have read that sign before entering the onsen. We would have been pro´s. Sorry fellow Japanese onsen friends, next time we do it right.
